It is made up of 0.8 million people born in France of foreign nationality and 4.5 million immigrants who have not acquired French nationality. 1.7 million people were born abroad but of French nationality. By adding up the different cases, 8.7 million people live in France and were born abroad, i.e. 12.8% of the total population.
