Fight against racism

Racism is defined as comments, behavior or violence against people because of their origin, their religion or their physical appearance. The law sanctions and prohibits racism in all its forms, whether acts or words. It is important to differentiate a racist act and a racist remark although both are punishable by law. A racist remark is a word, a writing or even an image that humiliates the person targeted or that stirs up racism. A racist act is an unfavorable and different treatment against a person in connection with his origin, his religion or his physical appearance. In 2021, the police and gendarmerie services recorded more than 12,500 racist offences, including 6,300 crimes or misdemeanors and 6,200 fines.
