The fight against malnutrition
Appropriate nutrition is essential to the good health of individuals and to the social and economic development of countries. Malnutrition generates a cycle of poverty and inequality. People who are affected by malnutrition from an early age will experience lifelong learning difficulties and health problems and unfortunately they will also have malnourished children. Worldwide in 2019, one in three adults was overweight. Among children under 5, 22% (144 million) suffered from chronic malnutrition, which means that they are too small for their age, also known as “stunted growth”. 7% of children under 5 suffered from acute malnutrition, which means that children are underweight for their age. Almost 6% were overweight.
